Being an indie author myself, I know how much time you put in to your book. The last thing you want to do is worry about trying to get your book into specific format that the self-publishers want. With ebooks, you want to make sure your work is formatted correctly, that its optimized for viewing on various devices, that you have a working Table of Contents, etc.
When submitting your book to Amazon, or even Smashwords, here are a few things that I'll make sure happens:
Incorrect/incompatible formatting has been removed so it won't create problems
A working Table of Contents will be created and added to the appropriate location in your book
If submitting to Amazon, I'll work with you to create your book's "Extras" that appear as an option on all Kindles and Kindle apps.
Explain to you and help configure any pictures you'd like to add to your book (yes, it's possible to add pictures/illustrations!)
Help you create the necessary account where YOU have control, meaning you control your royalties, define distribution areas, and help set up the book's information (description, price, keywords, etc.)
If submitting to Createspace with the intent to release your book in print form, I'll explain everything you need to know with regards to using an existing template for a cover or submitting your own.
Explain the fee up front. I'll explain what's expected of one another so that everyone is always on the same page.
